Sound waves can nudge a deep part of the brain — and the size of the nudge may predict the effectامواج صوتی می‌توانند به بخشی عمیق از مغز تلنگر بزنند — و اندازه‌ی این تلنگر شاید بتواند میزان اثر را پیش‌بینی کند

Focused sound aimed deep inside the brain made a vision relay station react more strongly to what people saw. In 24 adults, the tiny tissue movement the sound caused predicted the effect size; computer estimates did not.

Why it matters

Doctors would love to change activity in deep brain areas without surgery, for conditions like epilepsy, chronic pain or depression. Focused sound can reach those depths, but nobody could tell how much actually arrived, because every skull is shaped differently. This work suggests you can measure the real effect in each person, inside the scanner, instead of guessing with a computer model. It is one early study in healthy volunteers, so this is a step toward safer, personalised treatment, not a treatment yet.
