Clocks in Britain and Germany agree to within one second in six billion yearsساعتهای بریتانیا و آلمان در طول شش میلیارد سال فقط کمتر از یک ثانیه با هم اختلاف دارند
Two atomic clocks built by separate teams in different countries tick at almost exactly the same rate. Linked by 2,220 km of glass fibre cable over 12.6 days of data, they differed by less than five parts in a billion billion.

Why it matters
The second is still defined by caesium atomic clocks, but these newer optical clocks (clocks that count the much faster vibrations of light instead of microwaves) are about a hundred times more precise. Before the world can redefine the second, separate laboratories must prove their clocks really agree, and until now that level of agreement had mostly been shown only between clocks in the same building. Better clocks mean better satellite navigation, better ways to measure tiny changes in the height of the ground, and sharper tests of whether the laws of physics are truly the same in every direction. Nothing changes in daily life yet: this is one month-long comparison, and its accuracy is now limited by how well we know Earth's gravity, not by the clocks.
