An early tool lets cells keep a growing record written in their own DNAابزاری اولیه به سلول‌ها اجازه می‌دهد رکوردی رو به رشد را در DNA خودشان ثبت کنند

Researchers built a DNA system that keeps adding new marks to its own end without erasing the older ones. After three rounds of writing, they read 4,436 different complete records inside cells.

Why it matters

Scientists often want to know a cell's past: which cell it grew from, when it changed, how a tumour spread. Cells cannot normally tell you any of that. A record that keeps growing inside the DNA could store that story and be read back later, together with a map of where each cell sat in a piece of tissue. For now this is a laboratory demonstration, not a medical test, and the team did not report how often the writing goes wrong.
